Job Description
Island Conservation Society (ICS), established in 2001, is a science-based, not-for-profit conservation NGO which has two main objectives –
- The management and conservation of the Aride Island Special Reserve, and
- The management and operation of conservation centres on IDC-owned and managed islands including Silhouette, Desroches, Alphonse, Farquhar, Plate, Astove and Cosmoledo.
ICS is seeking to employ a serious and motivated person to carry out a short term contract in the position of SHARPSHOOTER/ERADICATOR.
Contract Terms of Reference
To develop and implement a programme to humanly eliminate feral cats, chickens and other feral invasive animal species on any the outlying islands mentioned above.
Terms and conditions of Contract
Period – 6 to 12 months
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
Benefits – Return economy airfare at beginning and end of contract period; Accommodation and meals during stay on the islands; Free air travel between the islands; Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP).
Qualifications and experience
Essential – Certified and demonstrable training and experience as a sharpshooter/eradicator and ability to operate, maintain and provide safe storage of a .22 calibre PNP Air Rifle supplied by ICS.
Desirable – Essential qualifications above plus tertiary qualifications and relevant field experience in biology, zoology and environment sciences.
Other considerations
The successful applicant will be expected to remain on the islands during the period of the contract.
A final contract sum will be agreed and offered depending on qualifications and/or relevant experience.
