Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA)
The Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national regulatory body responsible for quality assurance in education and training in Seychelles.
SQA ensures that qualifications offered in Seychelles meet national standards and are aligned with the Seychelles National Qualifications Framework (SNQF). Through its regulatory and quality assurance functions, SQA safeguards the credibility and recognition of qualifications for learners, employers, and education providers.
What SQA Does
Implements and maintains the Seychelles National Qualifications Framework (SNQF)
The SNQF establishes nationally recognised levels of qualifications, from certificates to postgraduate degrees. It enables learners, employers, and institutions to understand how different qualifications compare within the national system.
Leads the development of qualifications
Before a programme exists there is a Standard. SQA develops these national benchmarks to ensure that no matter where learners study, their qualifications meet a guaranteed level of quality recognised by employers and international partners.
Registers Education and Training Providers
SQA regulates the registration of private providers of post-compulsory education and training in Seychelles. Registration ensures that providers meet required standards relating to governance, facilities, staffing, and learner protection.
Accredits Institutions and Programmes
SQA accredits institutions and education and training programmes to ensure they meet national quality standards and align with the SNQF.
Recognises and Evaluates Qualifications
SQA evaluates both local and foreign qualifications to determine their equivalency within the national qualifications framework. This service supports employment, further study, and professional recognition.
Recognises Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning provides individuals with an opportunity to have skills and knowledge gained through work experience, informal learning, or self-directed study assessed against national qualification standards.
Inspects Schools
Through its School Inspection Unit, SQA evaluates primary and secondary schools against national standards, supporting quality improvement in teaching, learning, and school governance.
